Scalenohedral Calcite with Iridescent Chalcopyrite from Jiepaiyu Mine, China

    Dimension: 10.3cm x 6.5cm x 2.5cm

    Weight: 128g

Locality: Jiepaiyu Mine (Shimen Mine), Shimen As-(Au)deposit, Shimen, Changde, Hunan, China

A complicated and yet, perfectly balanced specimen.  On one side we have a group of uniform scalenohedral crystals showing well defined edges with perfect double terminations.  Interpenetrating each other, they are brilliant and translucent with a slight grayish tone.

On the other side we have calcite crystals scattered on half of the surface, also scalenohedral but showcasing the more lustrous side of the crystals.  This side of the specimen is full of details because of the tiny pyrite crystals in rich iridescent copper color.  They are disposed on the matrix on which observe small aggregates forms, so beautiful and glittering!  A fine specimen to be displayed.
