A beautiful, very gemmy and lustrous crystals of Quartz points aesthetically tinted red by micro-crystal of Hematite on the terminations creating a pinkish-red color. It is very sparkly and gemmy in person and photos don't do its justice. The creamy white Dolomite crystals exhibit a unique pearly lustre. Crystalized Chalcoyprite in brassy-gold color aesthetically perched onto the Dolomite aggregates, magnificent!
The prevalence of Hematite in red color is due to oxidized iron in general. Hematite had been used as red pigment for paintings at Gramalote, an early Initial Period (1500–1200 cal. B.C.) maritime community in the north coast of Peru.
