Botryoidal Chalcedony (Grape Agate) from Mamuju, Indonesia
Dimension: 9cm x 8.5cm x 3.5cm
Weight: 196g
Locality: Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province, Sulawesi, Indonesia
A stunning display Chalcedony specimen of the so-called "Grape Agate". A combination of fine brilliant purple radial aggregates "balls" that resemble a bunch of grapes with wonderful three-dimensional cavernous form and notably velvety luster. The spheres are singularly larger than most from the find and the color trends to more of a lighter lavender and silvery-purple hue in areas, but for the most part, it has some of the best color with the finest luster you will see in this material. Both sides are well-crystallized with a 3-dimentional structure, outstanding!
The color of Chalcedony from this locality can range from deep purple to very pale amethystine or whitish shades. Poorly colored ones sometimes get dyed to reveal a more violet colour. There are also less commonly green ones (colored by inclusions of some clay mineral), and even specimens with purple and green spherules together.
