Spessartine Garnets on Smoky Quartz from Wushan Mine, China
Dimension: 4cm x 2.2cm x 1.8cm
Weight: 19g / 95 carat
Locality: Wushan Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China
An absolutely outstanding example of gem quality Spessartine Garnets on Smoky Quartz from the world renowned Wushan Mine of China. The sparkly Garnets interlinked to form a “blanket” on the Smoky Quartz, which display a very saturated reddish-orange to cinnamon-orange color, remarkable! The Smoky Quartz is exceedingly lustrous and is translucent. Comes with a high quality acrylic display box.
The first specimens of Chinese garnet associated with smoky quartz and feldspar start appearing in the market in 1998. After many years of plentiful specimens, this mine has pretty much been depleted and had been shut down by the Chinese government decades ago. Spessartine Garnet specimens from the Wushan Mine are highly sought after by mineral collectors in the world and the price has already increased in multiples at the source. This is from the lot that I'd acquired in 2006, until stock last.
