Collector’s Piece: Shangaan Amethyst Scepter from Zambezi Valley, Zimbabwe

The Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe produces a wide range of Amethyst habits and is known for its Amethyst Scepters with Smoky zoning.  However, gem quality Amethyst Scepter is very rare from this locality.  This is one of the best examples I’ve seen so far, the gemminess of which is way better in person than photos and video!  These specimens are commonly called Shangaan Amethyst.  The milky Quartz stem topped by a rich smoky and purple Amethyst crystal of vitreous luster and well-formed double terminations.  The Amethyst is included with silvery and red Hematite, they are clearly visible throughout due to the exceptional transparency which adds interest and depth to this piece.  This is a beautiful, brightly colored, gemmy Amethyst Scepter in pristine condition, just a jewel of a good specimen size for any Quartz from this locality.  Comes with a high quality acrylic display stand.
