An eye-catching, striking specimen of red Hematite tinted Quartz associated with Dolomite and Pyrite from the world-class Dongxiang Co., Jiangxi, China. The vivid orange-red Hematite aesthetically tinted the Quartz crystal points in places.  Associated with white Dolomite artfully "crowned" the Quartz creating “snow” effect, it is visually contrasting and beautiful.  Brassy gold crystals of Pyrite embedded in the matrix, adding real pizzazz to the piece, outstanding!  Comes with a high quality acrylic display box.
 
The prevalence of Hematite in red color is due to oxidized iron in general. Hematite had been used as red pigment for paintings at Gramalote, an early Initial Period (1500–1200 cal. B.C.) maritime community in the north coast of Peru.
