Heart-shaped Spessartine Garnets on Feldspar from Wushan Mine, China

Dimension: 4.3cm x 3.5cm x 2cm

Weight: 135 carat / 27g

Locality: Wushan Spessartine Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China

Druse with Spheroidal aggregates of very well defined Trapezohedral Spessartine Garnet crystals, this specimen from the world-renowned Wushan Mine is definitely eye-catching!  Aesthetically set on a Feldspar matrix in an interesting heart-shape form, the gem quality Garnets are between translucent and transparent.  The locals called it "Fanta Garnets" because the color is similar to the famous orange soda drink.  It is exceedingly lustrous and has a uniform fanta-orange color.  This kind of Spessartine is quickly disappearing from the mineral market.  It is way more beautiful in person than photos as the sparkles cannot be captured, mesmerizing!

The first specimens of Chinese garnet associated with smoky quartz and feldspar appeared on the market in 1998. After many years of plentiful specimens, this locality has pretty much been depleted and had been shut down by the Chinese government many years ago. World-class specimens from this locality are now one of the most sort after pieces in the world.
