Fluorescent Calcite Specimen from Yongchun Co., China
Dimension: 6.3cm x 3.7cm x 3.7cm
Weight: 72g
Locality: Yongchun Co., Quanzhou prefecture, Fujian, China.
A unique specimen of white hexagonal columnar Calcite with black scalenohedron color zoning from Fujian, China. It is a two generation growth Calcite where the inner black scalenohedron formed first, then the white hexagonal Calcite covered the black crystal. Calcite of this kind all display an intense pinkish-orange fluorescence under UV lighting (365 nm).
Specimen of this kind was first discovered in Nov 2017, it is a unique crystal habit of Calcite only found in China, quite uncommon and the locals called it "Panda Calcite" as it resembles the colors and eyes of Panda. This is the last 1 or 2 pieces that I’ve got left, from the lot acquired in 2017, and nothing came out since then.
