Malachite and Goethite pseudomorph after Quartz from Dongchuan Mine, China

Malachite and Goethite pseudomorph after Quartz from Dongchuan Mine, China

Dimension: 9.1cm x 5.9cm x 3.1cm

Weight: 212g

Locality: Dongchuan Cu Ore Field, Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan, China

An astonishing specimen measuring 9.1cm across that is composed as if a piece of art, with the Azurite crystals aesthetically scattered on a green crust of Malachite.  Excavated from the Dongchuan Cu ore field from May to June 2021, these new combo specimens WOW the Chinese mineral collecting world.  The close-up photos show how this is actually a thin layer of Chrysocollar over an earlier Malachite pseudomorphed from an even earlier primary Goethite crystal, what a fantastic pseudomorph!  Although a variety of minerals have been found from this May-June 2021 limited find, these casts of Malachite and Goethite after Quartz have always been rare, and this is a marvelous example.  Obtained directly from the miner’s home on-site, this is not only a fine specimen but also an outstanding combination rarity of mineral history, from time and place.  The overall aesthetics of this stark and colorful specimen is excellent, and there are even some tiny botryoidal Azurite crystals by way of accent, itself bright and attractive.  Comes with a high quality display stand.
