Collector’s Piece: Botryoidal Hemimorphite on Matrix from Wenshan Mine
Dimension: 12.1cm x 9.1cm x 7.6cm
Weight: 702g
Locality: Wenshan mine, Dulong ore field, Yunnan, China
A large cabinet Hemimorphite specimen measuring 12.1cm across which exhibits a rare botryoidal crystal habit. The good size and generous deposits of Hemimorphite crystals of this example ascends its value and interest. They are highly crystallized which display a lovely pearlsheen, and a vivid sky-blue color. The video doesn't do it justice because it is way more beautiful in person, and this is the largest piece of the batch acquired in 2014 by my father from the Wenshan Mine in China.
Hemimorphite is known from literally hundreds of worldwide localities, and considering the fairly simple chemistry, the majority of these specimens are sadly white or colorless. The Wenshan mine in China has produced some of the world's best Hemimorphites specimens and are famed for their striking blue color, you won't be surprised to see them sold at auctions.
