Collector's Piece: Spessartine Garnets on Twin Smoky Quartz from Wushan Mine

Dimension: 6.2cm x 2.9cm x 2.2cm

Weight: 53g

Locality: Wushan Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China

An exquisite specimen of rich cinnamon-orange Spessartine Garnets on a Twin Smoky Quartz from the famous Wushan Mine of China.  The gemmy and sparkly Garnets aesthetically grown on the base of the two connected, intergrown Smoky Quartz Points.  The Smoky Quartz crystals are exceedingly lustrous and is finely etched.  This belongs to my father’s long-kept rare minerals collection, top quality undamaged piece of this size is a luxury and it is no longer seen in the mineral market now.

The first specimens of Chinese garnet associated with smoky quartz and feldspar appeared on the market in 1998.  After many years of plentiful specimens, this locality has pretty much been depleted and had been shut down by the Chinese government many years ago.  Spessartine Garnet Specimens from this locality are now one of the most sort after pieces in the world and will see price increases in multiples in the near future.
