Collector’s Piece: Iridescent Goethite on Malachite from Sepon Mine, Laos

Dimension: 9.2cm x 9cm x 4cm

Weight: 263g

Locality: Khanong open pit, Sepon Mine, Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Laos

A wow factor first seen at the 2018’s Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, this is a new combination to the mineral collecting world, unprecedented to collectors. The association of Geothite with Malachite creates a highly contrasting visual effect in terms of color and texture. The velvety to metallic Goethite has partially coated the botryoidal Malachite which display a striking rainbow iridescence – rare pink, red and yellow colors. The Goethite “pillar” which connect the two Malachite crust add uniqueness and aesthetics to the piece, outstanding!

These extraordinary pieces started appearing on the Chinese mineral market in mid 2014, supplies are very limited and hard to obtain an example of nowadays! A one-of-a-kind and highly decorative winning piece with great aesthetics from this locale.  Comes with a high quality copper wired display stand as pictured.
