Collector’s Piece: Fibrous Gypsum var. Selenite from Liupanshui, China

Locality: Liupanshui, Guizhou, China
This dramatic and sculptural Chinese Gypsum var. Selenite displays a unique “Rams Horn” formation and a pretty curly shape. The luster is pearly and it is very sparkly due to second generation of microcrystals growth, it is way more beautiful in person than photos. This is a complete floater and in perfect condition without any damages, outstanding! When exposed to UV lighting 365nm, a phosphorescent substance will glow, absorbing the UV light and remitting it at a longer wavelength. Acquired in 2018, Gypsum specimen of this quality is seen out of Liupanshui very rarely since the first discovery in 2016, and they are very unqiue as opposed to more typical crystallized Gypsum. Having this crystal habit of this large cabinet size and totally pristine quality, this is one of the best examples I’ve seen from this locale. Comes with a high quality copper-wired display stand.
