Collector's Piece: Botryoidal Hemimorphite on Matrix from Wenshan Mine

Collector's Piece: Botryoidal Hemimorphite on Matrix from Wenshan Mine

Dimension: 8.1cm x 6.5cm x 2.8cm

Weight: 145g

Locality: Wenshan mine, Dulong ore field, Yunnan, China

This is a breathtaking, exceedingly lustrous specimen of Hemimorphite with a botryoidal crystal habit from the Wenshan Mine in China.  In my experience, good blue Hemimorphites with a pearlsheen are difficult to find from any locality.  I purchased a small parcel of these beautiful specimens in April 2019 and this is the last piece that I have.  All of the specimens in this lot are very well crystallized with an eye-catching pearlsheen and blue colour.  The pearlsheen lustre gives it almost a wet look.  Very attractive in person, this is the best and largest piece of all.

Hemimorphite is known from literally hundreds of worldwide localities, and considering the fairly simple chemistry, the majority of these specimens are sadly white or colorless.  The Wenshan mine in China has produced some of the world's best Hemimorphites specimens and are famed for their striking blue color, you won't be surprised to see them sold at auctions.
