Collector’s Piece: Azurite and Malachite pseudomorph after Quartz from China
Dimension: 5cm x 4.3cm x 1.7cm
Weight: 30g
Locality: Dongchuan Cu Ore Field, Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan, China
Excavated from the Dongchuan Cu ore field from May to June 2021, these new combo specimens WOW the Chinese mineral collecting world. A significant feature of specimens from this pocket is that quite a lot of the pieces came out as complete floaters, and this is a great example. Mint-green, slightly botryoidal crystals of Malachite entirely encrust the surface of the Quartz cluster grown beneath. In a later stage of the crystal growth, Azurite crystals of deep royal blue color aesthetically “crawled” on the surface of the Malachite, escalating its beauty to another level, mesmerizing! This is absolutely a remarkably well composed, well balanced and startling colorful specimen. Obtained directly from the miner’s home on-site, beautiful and undamaged pieces are extremely rare. It is a magnificent specimen of mineral history, from time and place. Comes with a high quality copper-wired display stand.
