Calcite on Dogtooth Calcite with Iridescent Chalcopyrite from Daye Mine

Dimension: 9cm x 5.8cm x 4.5cm
Weight: 194g
Locality: Fengjiashan Mine, Edong, Daye, Huangshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China

An extremely rare specimen from a one-time-find in the Daye copper mine, this gorgeous piece displays a cluster of Dogtooth Calcite crystals partially "crowned" by second generation Calcite. The Dogtooth Calcite crystals are perfectly terminated artfully covered by a layer of shinny iridescent Chalcopyrite. The second generation Calcite crystals are between transparent and translucent in white color, creating good color contrast with the Dogtooth Calcite. The Calcite fluoresces a medium pink color under UV lighting (365 nm). It is rare in combinations and beautiful in formations.
