Azurite on Goethite pseudomorph after Quartz from Dongchuan, China
Dimension: 3.9cm x 1.8cm x 0.9cm
Weight: 7g / 45 carat
Locality: Dongchuan Cu Ore Field, Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan, China
Excavated from the Dongchuan Cu ore field from May to June 2021, these new combo specimens WOW the Chinese mineral collecting world. A significant feature of specimens from this pocket is that quite a lot of the pieces came out as complete floaters, and this is a great example. Deep brown micro crystals of Goethite entirely encrusted the Quartz. At a later stage of crystal growth, Azurite crystals aesthetically “carpeted” the Goethite and the color is a bright royal blue, so stunning! This is absolutely a remarkably well composed, well balanced and startling colorful specimen. Obtained directly from the miner’s home on-site, beautiful and undamaged pieces are extremely rare. It is a magnificent specimen of mineral history, from time and place. The piece will be beautifully set in a high quality acrylic display box.
