Brandberg Amethyst and Ethical Mining

I love love love Brandberg crystals! Not only because it’s rare and beautiful, but for its multi-dimensional healing power…well at least it works for me :D

Believing in the supernatural power of crystals goes back beyond recorded history. Nearly every culture has its own beliefs, spiritual practices and legends about the magical power of stones, for example legends from Atlantis, Egypt, Babylonia, Sumeria and Hindu culture. The first historical reference to the use of crystals come from the Ancient Sumerians in the 4th Millennium BC.

Brandberg Amethyst is a magical and powerful crystal blend of Amethyst, Smoky/Clear Quartz and other inclusions, together in one potent crystal. It is best known for its captivating phantoms which facilitate deep soul healing by clearing the chakras of blockages. This may be the main reason why I find it useful in promoting better sleep. Brandberg crystals are found only in this inhospitable and dry section of the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world. Brandberg Region is considered by the locals as a sacred and spiritual site full of history and great significance to the San (or Bushmen) Tribes who sheltered there and rendered over 48,000 paintings and engravings withing its overhanging rocks and caves.

Why is ethical hand mining so important?

All of my crystals and specimens are ethically sourced, which means I only deal with smaller scale miners – they work for themselves (their families) so they won’t be treated unethically like some big corporations do and there won’t be any labor exploitation issues. Some of them are our good friends thanks to the long and well maintained relationships started by my father 48 years ago.

The good thing about contracting with individual miners is that environmental destruction could be minimized as the mining is done by hand and holes are refilled, do you know the whole hillside could be destroyed with the industrial dynamiting methods adopted by big mining companies? The low-impact operations and direct purchase from the miners ensure that my crystals carry good ethical vibes. It is because stones can change hands several times before reaching you, and of course, to drive up the price! You do not want to buy a crystal or specimen that has dirt on it, like the “blood” diamonds from Africa.
